Orders and checkout: what happens after somebody chooses a dish, and the things you can switch on around it.
Adding to an order #
Every dish card has an add control, and it changes shape depending on the dish:
| If the dish… | The card shows |
|---|---|
| has one size and no extras | Add to cart — one click, straight into the order |
| has sizes or extras | Choose options — a small panel slides out so they can pick without leaving the page |
| is out of stock | Unavailable |
Nothing to configure. If you would rather the cards were not orderable at all, each menu band has a setting to turn the add control off.
The order itself #
The cart slides out from the side. It shows each dish with its size, any extras as their own lines, the special instructions somebody typed, and the running total.
It also shows, automatically, whatever applies:
- A discount you are running, by name, with the amount taken off.
- A subscription, if you sell one — Delivers every week under the item.
- The price per unit, if you sell something by weight or volume.
- Whether tax is included.
Under the checkout button, Shopify draws the express buttons your store has switched on — Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay. Those are set in Shopify’s own payment settings, not in the theme.
Order notes #
The cart page has a notes box for anything about the whole order — ring the bell, not the buzzer. Turn it off in the cart section’s settings if you would rather not offer it.
Collection from the restaurant #
If you have set up pickup locations in Shopify, each dish page says where it can be collected and how soon, and lists your other locations underneath.
Set that up in Shopify: Settings → Shipping and delivery → Local pickup
No locations means no pickup line — the theme shows nothing rather than showing an empty feature.
Gift cards #
Sell one like any other product, with the product type set to Gift card. The theme then offers a Send this as a gift tick box, and when it is ticked: who it goes to, their email, a message, and the date to send it.
The card the recipient gets shows the amount, the code, and a QR code your staff can scan at the till.
Selling to other countries #
If your store sells in more than one country or reads in more than one language, a country picker and a language picker appear in the footer by themselves. There is no setting to switch on.
Set these up in Shopify: Settings → Markets and Settings → Languages
Selling in one country in one language? Nothing is drawn, and the footer stays as it is.
Search #
The magnifying glass in the header opens a search panel. As somebody types, it suggests dishes, pages and journal posts. There is nothing to set up, and nothing to keep updated — it reads your shop as it is.
